Momos Recipe
Momos are a popular street food snack loved for their soft outer covering and flavorful vegetable stuffing. They are originally from Tibetan and Nepali cuisine but are now widely enjoyed across India. Steamed momos are light, tasty, and can be served with spicy red chutney.
If you want to make restaurant-style veg momos at home, follow this easy recipe.
Ingredients
For Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- Salt to taste
- Water (as needed)
For Stuffing
- 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 1/2 cup grated carrot
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1–2 green chilies (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon oil
Method
1. Prepare Dough
Mix flour and salt. Add water gradually and knead into a soft dough. Cover and rest for 20–30 minutes.
2. Prepare Stuffing
Heat oil in a pan. Add ginger-garlic paste, onions, and vegetables. Cook for 3–4 minutes. Add salt and soy sauce. Let it cool.
3. Shape Momos
Roll small dough balls into thin circles. Add stuffing in the center and fold into dumpling shapes.
4. Steam Momos
Place momos in a steamer and cook for 8–10 minutes until the outer layer becomes soft and slightly shiny.
5. Serve
Serve hot momos with spicy red chutney or schezwan sauce.

Tips for Perfect Momos
- Dough should be soft but not sticky
- Do not overcook stuffing
- Seal edges properly to avoid opening
- Steam on medium flame for best texture
