Mutton Recipe
Mutton curry is a rich, spicy, and flavorful dish that is loved across India. Slow-cooked mutton becomes tender and absorbs all the spices, giving a deep and delicious taste. It is often served with rice, roti, or naan.

Ingredients
For Marination
- 500 grams mutton
- 1 cup curd (yogurt)
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For Curry
- 2 onions (finely chopped)
- 2 tomatoes (pureed)
- 2–3 tablespoons oil or ghee
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1–2 cups water
- Fresh coriander leaves
Method
1. Marinate Mutton
Mix mutton with curd, spices, ginger-garlic paste, and lemon juice. Let it rest for at least 2 hours (overnight for best taste).
2. Cook Onions
Heat oil in a pressure cooker or heavy pan. Add cumin seeds and chopped onions. Cook until golden brown.
3. Add Tomatoes & Spices
Add tomato puree and all dry spices. Cook until oil separates from the masala.
4. Add Mutton
Add marinated mutton and cook on high flame for 5–7 minutes.
5. Pressure Cook
Add water, cover, and pressure cook for 5–6 whistles (or until mutton becomes tender).
6. Finish
Open cooker, adjust salt, and simmer for 5–10 minutes. Add garam masala and coriander leaves.
